Green Dragon

I couldn't believe my luck when sitting with a cuppa outside, this beautiful female emperor dragonfly started doing circuits round our pond then she started to oviposit.

Leaping up trying not to disturb muffling a shriek I shot in the get the camera. 

This is a real first in our pond. Last year we had darters but although I've seen one larval case from a darter there should have been loads and there hasn't been. We have had an emperor hatch from the pond this year but as it was only  put in last year I think the larva had come in with the waterlilies. Plus ... I missed the whole experience as I was out all day! Talk about teeth gnashing.
