Heat Wave

With record temperatures predicted for today, I thought I’d better dress appropriately. Substantial boots, thick jeans, armoured gloves and jacket should do the trick. Top it all off with a crash helmet just to be on the safe side.
Obviously, this sartorial choice had less to do with the actual weather and more to do with what that weather meant - a chance to get out on the bike. I went through to Barrow to meet Stuart for a coffee, and it actually wasn’t too bad - as long as I kept the speed above 40mph to create a cooling breeze. Fortunately, this is not a major problem when you’re mounted on a 900cc motorbike on flowing A roads!
By contrast, the afternoon and evening have been spent in shorts and t-shirt trying not to move whilst sitting in the slight breeze created by opening all the doors and windows in the house. It’s forecast to be even hotter tomorrow, before the weather breaks on Wednesday. The plan is to stay out of the sun as much as possible and, if I do go out, it will be in a car with fully functioning aircon!
Of course, it could be worse. I could be living in London. Actually, that statement holds true whatever the weather…!
