Last of the sun

The forecasters had warned that this would be the end of the hot spell, so we met up after my GP visit. The visit was quicker than usual, with hardly any waiting involved and the outcome was a wait-and-see one, with a return appointment in three weeks time.

We began with a beer in Carl's back garden. I stupidly wore black trousers which really attracted the heat, which was really intense. Earlier, the car displayed an outside temperature of 30º C, which I'd never seen here before. Still cooler than our UK neighbours with their show-off 40, but definitely hot enough for us.

We got a taxi to take us the short distance to Dalkey (town of the seven castles, the tourist blurb told us). We began in the beer garden in the Dalkey Duck (dreadful name, but great garden) and then moved across the road to the Queens. There'd been a panic last year about this place, which had been sold and looked as if it might not open again after the pandemic. Fortunately, new owners re-opened its doors and restored it to its rightful place as THE place to go to in Dalkey.

We sat and beered and fooded, soaking up the last rays of the day. A great spot to do that, and a good end to the unprecedented hot spell.

Well what d'ya know! I've reached a Blip milestone. It's taken me a really long time to get to 2,500 because of my extended absences — much, much longer than others who've also been here since the early days but have kept going relentlessly. Still, a milestone is a milestone I guess.
