A Dartmoor Tree

I fancied a trip to Dartmoor this afternoon so headed up past Venford to Combestone Tor. I was surprised to find the car park full of cattle and ponies. I can't for the life of me think why so many should have gathered there.

I had a wander around. Combestone Tor is quite an attractive group of stones but I'd decided to photograph the windblown hawthorn trees on this occasion. I've photographed them before but I liked this image constructed by stitching two landscape shots one above the other. I like the way the complex structure of the tree (or trees because there are at least two growing together) stretches over and compliments the rugged moorland landscape.
