A Day In The Life

Mothman

Up early to do groceries, we were home, unpacked and outside by 930am. It was already 86F! With thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon and evening, we watered only potted plants • Heading toward the verbena with watering can in hand I discovered this lovely creature. A clearwing hummingbird moth. Isn’t it fabulous? We have two clearwings in Maine, and last summer was my first sighting of both after planting a dwarf buddleia in the Butterfly Bed. Unfortunately that plant didn’t survive our icy winter, but apparently they like verbena too :) • They’re the only moths who feed during the day. You can be sure I’ll be paying much more attention to the verbena from now on, and may need to plant more :) • My niece and her family already experienced a tornado warning in western NH this afternoon. Thankfully it was uneventful but taking refuge in the basement was a scary first for her, hubby and their two kiddos • Be safe & Stay cool!
