Lucerne

We took the train from Basel to Lucerne this morning. We need to be in Zurich this evening for the concert of a band called The Pixies, so we thought we'd stop off somewhere different during the day.
Wow, wow, wow...what a stunning city Lucerne is. This immaculate city bordering the lake, with the Alps in the distance, you can't help but be blown away by the beauty here.
We took a boat trip out onto the lake, to the point where all 4 lakes join together, then we sailed back to shore, all the while in awe of the beauty of the mountains and the surrounding hill-sides, the commentary on-board giving some wonderful insights into the past and present.
It was a very hot day, which meant it was slightly hazy, so I'd love to come back on a clear day to see these stunning views and perhaps head out on a tour to the mountains for a cable-car trip...but that's for another day.
The architecture is a delight, a mix of very old and very modern, which had been done in a sympathetic way, so that nothing looks out of place - it all works well together. I especially loved the painted murals on many of the buildings. I also enjoyed wandering through the many winding roads and alley-ways with their cobbled paths. We wish we'd had at least one more day here to fully appreciate it.
