Cricket at the Oval

Our first visit to the Oval for three years. My husband is a member and pre COVID used to go to matches quite often. I go occasionally when we are meeting friends for lunch in a restaurant there but I don’t usually stay all day. Today it was the fourth day of a county match - Surrey v Warwickshire . Surrey won by six wickets. There was a very small crowd so not all the catering facilities were open and not the nice restaurant so we had to settle for a sandwich as we did not want fish and chips on a hot day!

It is very different watching cricket here rather than on TV…no commentary and no close-ups of the action. I prefer watching it on TV.  I did take my binoculars though! During the lunch break there was a lot of activity with groundsmen repairing the wickets etc. and marking out some others nearer the perimeter.

Nice views from the top of the members stand towards Vauxhall in this photo and looking over to the right you can also just see the top of the Houses of Parliament.
There is so much cricket memorabilia in the members area, lots of photos, trophies, blazers, caps etc of famous past Surrey and England cricketers.
