Boab

One of the trees in the ABC Favourite Tree vote is the boab. They are one of the very few Australian trees that are deciduous. Their only relatives seem to be the African baobabs. There are a number of theories, none proven, about how they got to Australia.

We photographed these in the Kimberley in 2005. I love them, because they are so odd and so endearingly ugly and so evocative of the wonderful Kimberley landscape. I doubt if they will make the short list though.
