Californian Tree Poppy ( Romneya coulteri )

Another shot from Kanyl's garden.  He manages to grow this beauty with no problem.  Admittedly it grows nowhere near its maximum height which is in the region of 2 m (7').  His clump reaches about 1.3 m (4').  We on the other hand just a few miles away have failed with it a number of times.

It is a perennial member of the Poppy family, it is classed as a herbaceous plant but has strong quite thick stems.  Native to southern California and the Baja peninsula.  The flowers are large, his about the size of the palm of your hand, they can be up to 20 cm (8') across.
