The Wheel

After all the rain it finally cleared late morning, and the sun finally appeared.

We had two trips, late morning to nearby Foulshaw Moss and then in the afternoon a circular route taking in Jack Scout. Both very pleasant.

Warm sunny weather and warmth has stirred the dragonflies into action, and we observed a lot of this activity today. Very difficult to photograph as they rarely settled nearby, and were understandably very watchful. Watching the dragonflies in one location we were joined by lizards, eager to snap up a ready meal.

Dragonfly mating behaviour is described as unique (I have had to remind myself how it works with a bit of research). This stage is apparently called “the wheel” amongst dragonfly aficionados.
