And the anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire in 1834, for which a Yorkshire MP, William Wilberforce, had campaigned. 

Yorkshire Day celebrates the historic county as "a protest movement against the Local Government re-organisation of 1974".

Lammas (Anglo-Saxon hlaf-mas, "loaf-mass"), is the festival of the wheat harvest and the first harvest festival of the year. It was customary to bring to church a loaf made from the new harvest.
