West Riding, Dewsbury

Rick and I have been planning to do the Pennine Real Ale Trail for ages, ever since we discovered the delights of the Stalybridge Buffet Bar. We finally managed to get round to it today and after a morning geocaching around Manchester we caught the train to Dewsbury.

The complete trail is 8 pubs next to railway stations but we planned to do  4 each on 2 separate visits. Today we went to the West Riding at Dewsbury (best pub), the Navigation Tavern at Mirfield, the Commercial at Slaithwaite (we had been in this one before in an aborted visit to FC Halifax Town) and the Railway at Greenfield. It all went very well with the trains running on time and we aim to return next month to do the other pubs (Huddersfield, Marsden and Stalybridge). The inconvenient opening times mean that we won't bother with Batley. A tremendous day out.
