Hike to Fergenhütte SAC

We had a few admin things to do this morning - we had to book Xena in to the vet for her pre-travel clearance before we drive home again at the end of the week, we arranged for the TV man to come replace the Swisscom TV box which seems to be broken, and the plumbers arrived to start knocking through the wall to get at the pipes where they suspect the leak is coming from. We left the plumbers to it and then we set off for our hike. They work so neatly here, its a pleasure having workmen in the house as there is no mess.

We decided to walk up to Fergenhütte which is a SAC (Swiss Alpine Club) hut at 2141m elevation. This is the beginning of that long hike that Inca and Tommy did last week. It was hot and sunny today, the temperature board said 27C and it sure felt like it. I think it is one of the toughest hikes we have done here, it took 2.5 hours to hike up an elevation of 950m to get to the hut. Once we got there it has an honesty box so you can help yourself to drinks and chocolates from the fridge and leave money in the little safety box.

We then descended via a different route and that took 1.5 hours, and then we went to a mountain cafe where we had a very late lunch - just soup and salad. We still had a half hour walk back so it was a long walk today and my legs are feeling worked!

We went to the supermarket to get some groceries. I have found that this year the berries are not great, usually the fresh produce here is excellent but I think like many countries the heat has affected the crops.

Tonight I have my camera club committee meeting via zoom - it's from 7.30pm to 9.30pm but as I am an hour ahead here in Switzerland, that means it is due to finish at 10.30pm on Swiss time - it never finishes on time so it will be a late night for me!
