Pavilion

Much of the week I’ve been hanging around the pavilion hosted by the Southern African Development Community (SADC). SADC’s goal is to foster cooperation on all manner of things between the countries of Southern Africa and environs (for example Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo are SADC members, and they’re usually more associated with East and Central Africa, respectively).

SADC has a big focus on TFCAs (Transfrontier Conservation Areas - we love an acronym in our game) and the landscape I’m involved in contains one vast emerging TFCA called Niassa-Selous, which links the two largest conservation areas in Tanzania and Mozambique. Therefore there was much to learn from other TFCAs and the general SADC community. I barely had time to poke into other areas of the brimming Congress agenda. The days spent here will serve me well in terms of the SADC network and for developing a roadmap for how we can support our government partners to push the Niassa-Selous TFCA to new heights.
