A Lot of Angry Animals

This morning we docked at the Scottish port of Invergordon, and then drove to visit Dunrobin Castle with all of its 189 rooms and many many angry (stuffed) animals.  It is owned by the Duke of Sutherland, and is located on the east coast of the Northern Highlands overlooking the Moray Firth.

Here you can see part of the exterior -- a very "fairy tale" castle with all its turrets.  This sour-looking deer lurks just inside the front door, and stares balefully at you as you deposit your hat, coat, and bags in the cloak room.  The round window gives a view of the oldest part of the castle from one of the newer additions, and some very toothy (but flat) lions and leopards can be found lounging around in some of the sitting rooms.  The formal gardens were beautiful, and very well manicured.  There was a lone gardener slaving away with a hedge trimmer as I gazed down from a parapet.  I got the feeling he probably never has permission to stop working!
