Concert in the park

For many years up to 2019, Portland Parks provided free outdoor concerts and plays every summer. Then you know what happened. Tonight the summer program began again, and it opened with the flamenco troupe led by the very teacher Bella studied with during the first three months of 2020. Bella, her mom, and Evan invited Sue and me to go with them, and there was an audience of about 2000. Sue felt it was too risky for her compromised lungs, but I went and had fun making a few mediocre photos.

What I loved most was seeing many children flock to the front of the stage, spellbound by women who stomp, kick, yell, and proclaim their power (see the children's faces in the main and their backs in the first extra, taken from our picnic spot). That's the kind of modeling I love.

Bella felt conflicted: part of her wants to dance again; part of her doesn’t want to be committed to practice times. Evan was conspicuously uninterested (second extra).
