Feathered Friends

I was hoping for an interesting  aircraft shot but very few flew over today. I took the image of the goldfinch this morning. It had just flown up from a clump of thistles into an elderberry bush. It has a thistle seed in its bill. A country name for this bird is thistle tweaker.

The wood pigeon is perched on a wire that crosses our field. I think the robin is a juvenile just getting its red breast. It is standing on a plastic structure hoop. Nice to see a hybrid mallard on the lake. The water is worryingly low, little beaches have developed and some of the lily leaves are starting to shrivel..
