Juxtaposition

Woke this morning to a sunny and very pretty Akureyri and by 9 am we were on our way to Lake Myvatn. A very scenic day…waterfalls, tectonic plates, craters, dark/lava city, hot mud pits, geothermal power stations…and not forgetting the lake. A very breezy day which kept the local midge population at bay but it was reasonably warm in the sunshine.

Back on board now and due to sail in half an hour…going to be crossing the Arctic Circle later this evening before reaching our fourth and final stop tomorrow.

Our first quick photo opportunity of the day was a scenic shot of the ship…we were lucky enough to encounter a plane coming into land at the local airport, the runway of which was situated at the end of the fjord! I liked the juxtaposition of the seemly small aircraft against the large ship and the man versus nature feel to the shot…also love the shadows cast on the hill side from over the fjord. Our first main stop of the day was the Godafoss waterfalls (see extra), very picturesque and powerful.

Thanks to Mole for hosting Mono Monday this month.
