On This Day In History
1945: Soviets declare war on Japan; invade Manchuria

Quote Of The Day
"Frivolous thinking is due to foreign thought. Japan must no longer let the impudence of the white peoples go unpunished. It is the duty of Japan to fulfill her natural destiny. To cause China to respect the Japanese. To expel Chinese influence from Manchuria, and to follow the way of Imperial destiny."
(Sadao Araki)

Backblipping for the two day staycation in Kyoto. There are lots of places in Kyoto that A has never been to because, when he was younger, he was not interested in shrines, temples or places like that. Now he has a strong interest in Japanese history so today we visited Fushimi-Inari Taisha, Kiyomizu-dera and Yasaka-shrine. The last time I went to Fushimi-Inari I found a wonderful spot for a cold shower half way up the mountain, with natural running water. On a hot day like today (40 degrees), it's Heaven!
