Sunday: Istrian Doorways

This morning we headed to the little hilltown of Moscenice - it was notably busier than when we were there last but still not in full season.  Same with the nearby little beachtown of Moscenice Draga - cafes were opening for the season, but were still relatively quiet.  Apart from the fact that the water is a bit chilly, this is probably the perfect time to travel here.

We headed into Opatija for lunch.  Our original intention had also been to stop off in Rijeka.  I had always had pre-conceived notions about Rijeka as it is famous for ship-building and I thought it would just be overly industrial.  Yesterday, we inadvertently took a detour through the centre of Rijeka on the way to Lovran and, surprise, surprise, it is stunning!  Incredibly Italian in feel - a lot like Trieste, I think.  Time ran away with us, though, so we will have to go back for a separate visit - it is definitely worth it.
