Viking Bay in the early evening sun

Back to Broadstairs for another couple of concerts at their Folk Week.

First up were the Ross Ainslie Trio from Scotland, with the aforementioned Ross together with Ali Hutton and guitarist whose name I didn’t catch and can’t find. (Edit: Jenn Butterworth)

They played in Inverness last night and are in Glasgow tomorrow! A stirring mixture of skirling bagpipes, low whistles and guitar which was rocky, exciting and at times quiet and reflective.

They were followed by the irrepressible Sharon Shannon and her band. Probably the happiest musician on the planet, always a smile or a mischievous grin.

She plays the button accordion with great aplomb and skill. And the whistle and is a fiddler too. Great tunes and songs that kept us engaged throughout. You may have seen her in this video singing Galway Girl by Steve Earle (not the Ed Sheeran song): https://youtu.be/SNs0vKDvs0g
