Rare as hen’s teeth

We’ve not had much success with water lilies in our pond. Maybe too small a pond and too shaded. To have a second lily flower was a real treat.

Part of our morning was hijacked investigating a water leak in Doreen’s front garden. The tenants reported standing water on the lawn and sure enough there was, and very lush grass too. The leak is along the line of the water pipe from the road to the house and so is the homeowners responsibility.

The neighbours recently had a tree removed right where the leak is. It may just be coincidence. We’ve spoken to the neighbours and contacted the insurance company. We will have to wait to see what investigations show.

This afternoon we went to see Doreen. She continues to struggle with severe pain in her knee and leg which is very much restricting her quality of life. She’s been offered a steroid injection. This time I hope she accepts the offer.

It was hot here of course, not as hot as the record breaking temperatures of a couple of weeks ago. We delayed walking until later in the evening when we were thrilled to see many, many bats skimming and swooping over the lake in Mote Park. As we were coming home the (almost) full moon hoisted itself above the horizon to give us a beautiful display.
