Holme-in-Cliviger

There used to be a station here!
Mid-way between Todmorden and Burnley the railway passes through the Cliviger Gorge.  In 1849 the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway built a small station to serve the local population.  The station was also used by the local Lord of the Manor and his family. Their access was a track directly from 'The Holme' and they built this private footbridge so that they could access the station without having to mix with the local population!
The station closed in 1930 and now no trace remains.
(btw - Eric Halsall the long-term commentator on the BBC TV series 'One Man and His Dog' lived in Cliviger for most of his life).
