Dragons & Crests

Sunday 21st August 2022                            (backblip)

I have also backblipped Saturday's Bee-utiful ...... hope you will take a look .... thanks to those who already have :-)

Another lovely walk this afternoon ..... thankfully the showers that had been forecast never appeared.

We were surprised to see a few Goldcrest in the fir tree .... not seen them round here before. Did manage to get this one shot before they disappeared ...... heavily cropped as it was high up in a tall tree!

We headed into the wood on the way back to see if there was any life at the pond now we've had some rain ..... really glad we did!

There were three dragonflies sweeping across the water! The same sort as we had seen yesterday hunting between the trees.

We suddenly spotted two of them mating ..... I managed one blurred shot as they were deep in the reeds before they were harassed by the third (another male) & they flew off still joined!

I also managed a rather distant shot of the 'spare' male!

I think they are a type of Hawker but identifying these beautiful creatures is not my forte! Hope somebody in Blipland can help!

None of these are particularly good photos but they just had to be my blip!

Later, as we were in the kitchen, I glanced out of the window & spotted the Humming-Bird Hawk-Moth ...... then realised there was more than one!

We counted three of them all feeding on the Buddleia together .... brilliant!

All in all an eventful day! :-)

Stay safe everyone :-)

Update: Migrant Hawker ..... thanks to Hillyblips for the identification :-)
