Beach Warriors

Every Monday morning, a friend and I walk the beach and pick up trash while conversing in Italian.  We "kill" two birds with one stone --  practicing our language skills while cleaning up the beach after the weekend crowds have gone home.  We find soooooo much trash -- filling and emptying (into trash bins) our bags several times as we scour the sand between the boardwalk and the wharf and sea.  Besides the empty food wrappers, water bottles, soda cups, caps (and so much more), much of the "trash" includes perfectly fine stuff --- shoes, socks, (we could open a shoe store for one-legged people), clothing, toys - lots of toys, especially sand  toys, earbuds (in a zipped case), cups,  sunglasses, towels, and so on.  We also fine tents, tent pegs, coolers, hibachis, sun canopies....."people are pigs' is often the unkind thought the comes to mind.  Today I carried TWO bags ....one for  the landfill and the other for goodwill....I figured, why fill up the landfill with stuff that could be repurposed and reused.  Today's photo is a little scene I happened upon before scooping them into my 'goodwill' bag.    We do find some cute stuff!  Troviamo delle cose carine!
