Distant Sunspots

Walking along the beach with the soft evening light behind me filtered through patchy cloud, I noticed the distant shore catching the sun. I used a 6-stop to smooth the sea and kept the processing high key, looking for soft pastel colours to suit the gentle mood I felt as the day drew to an end.

I was a little undecided about the clouds, whether to bring them out or flatten them, choosing the former. Now I think they may not be in keeping and wonder whether I should try another version.

To my left a man was fishing, trying his luck on the outgoing tide. I tried a few shots with him included, but, as in this case, I find figures too much a focal point in a landscape image.
