Carrots

We've never grown carrots successfully: our downland soil is full of little chalk pebbles and small flints, and when I've sown them, few seem to grow to an edible size. This year, P decided to sow a packet of seed in buckets. This means the stones can be sieved out (though I'm not sure how many were), and also lifts the young plants above ground level, helping to avoid carrot fly. The quality of the carrots is very good, the flavour is delicious, but the germination rate is still poor, so the harvest is very small.
