Almost

Two of my siblings and I just about finished the last bits of cleaning out of our mom and dad's house today. There's a few pieces of furniture that various people are coming to pick up, and the fridge to empty out.

We're having a little get together on Saturday morning at the main building of the retirement community they lived in - my parents (disdainfully or endearingly, most likely the former) called it "The Big House"...truly in reference to a prison, which is how they viewed assisted living and memory care, both housed in the main group of buildings. They had their wish and never lived in the Big House, but lived until the end in their own independent cottage. Well, dad technically didn't but close to it. So one last goodbye for the few people who knew them. Most of their friends have passed on already. Then it's done and what...life goes on. Hopefully with a closer connection to my siblings. If nothing else, our parents' deaths have brought us closer together, giving us the biggest gift of all.
