QUEEN ANNE'S LACE

To be precise, this is the seedhead of Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota); after flowering, the remains of the flower curls in, I presumre, to protect the seeds as they finish their development.

EXTRA: This is what the flower of the plant looks before the seedhead forms.

The familiar "carrot" is a cultivar of a subspecies of this plant and is eaten world-wide.  The QAL itself is native to Europe and is an invasive species in the U.S.  It is commonly seen along roadsides just about everywhere loamy soils are located.

As usual, I can't find the proper tag for Flower Friday...so I took my best guess.  I'll check other submissions to see what they have it tagged as.
