FEELIN' A LITTLE LOONY

Common Loon (Gavia immer); loons migrate through our area twice a year. In Spring they are heading to northern Wisconsin for nesting; in Autumn they head south always needing to be where there';s open water. They are fish eaters.

Their legs are attached near the back of their bodies so they are ungainly on land but are perfect for swimming under water for fishing duty. They need a long runway to take off so they are basically grounded if caught on land....they need water and lots of it.
