Sustained and sustainable

On the first official day of autumn the sun is shining like it hasn't for most  of the summer and the forest tracks are becoming dusty again.

This one comes off the main road to Colintraive and the amount of cutting along it has increased greatly in recent weeks.

Growing trees is one of the big industries in Argyll  and evidence of it is everywhere.

As an ex Environment  Minister I like to see it,  despite some of the reasons for the current increased activity lying in the tax concessions of the Thatcher years which did not help to secure what was needed and what is now being established thanks to the Scottish Government , namely  a sustained and sustainable programme of planting.
