A Day In The Life

4th Generation

This is one of two monarchs feeding on Joe Pye Weed this afternoon. It’s likely a fourth generation male monarch tanking up for his long 3,000 mile migration to central Mexico. 4th generations live the longest because the females return in the spring to lay their eggs on milkweed, the new first generation • Like the monarchs, the hummingbirds will also be leaving this month or next for warmer climates. We’re always sad to see them go but it’s a reminder to turn our attention to songbirds and other wildlife as they ready for the bitter cold ahead • I cut back 12 of 14 bags of potatoes today. We’ll be able to harvest them in 2-3 weeks. The other 2 were planted later so an October harvest is likely • Believe it or not tonight will be quite chilly for this time of year, upper 40s…the cucamelons will not be happy campers as they like it hot-hot-hot! • Happy September, Everyone!
