" You are family"- down memory lane.

The sign said:" No visitors. College closed."
I approach the porter in the lodge for Lincoln college. Would he allow M to be photographed in the quadrangle.
" Are you alumni?" he interrogates M .
"Welcome back! of course. You are family."

Suddenly the gate opens and we have the whole of Lincoln college to explore starting with his old college room, the chapel and the main dining room set up for  tonight banquet for the Goblin club, private men's dining club, returning for the first time after five years because they were barred for bad behaviour.  We bump into a student Thomas, who opens more doors for us. He offers to photograph us in the dining room at the High Table . ( see extra)
Among college alumni are, John Wesley, John Le Carre, who is reputed to have modelled Smiley on the rector Rev. Vivian Green, whom M knew and Rushi Sunak.
