The mighty River Tweed (and the lucky escape)

A trip across the Border to Kelso Folk Festival with MrM this afternoon. He went to a music session, while I wandered around the shops and then walked by the Tweed. It was rather a grey afternoon, but pleasantly warm, and I spent ages watching trout jumping. On the way back to the centre of town I wandered back to the van to drop off some shopping (a lucky find - some dried pears). Nothing was amiss!

Met MrM shortly after that, and we walked the short distance back to that van so he could drop off his fiddle. Horrified when we first saw it (extra). We had parked under a tree in one of the main car parks, and as we approached from the opposite direction to that in the photo, it looked as though a huge branch had fallen directly on to the roof. Aaaargh! But by some miracle the branch had only glanced the top of the van, which escaped significant damage - just a small dent and a scratch mark. Phew! But as MrM pointed out, had it crashed down when I was putting my bag in to the van, it could have killed me...
After dragging away the branch MrM re-parked the van well away from the tree, and we went for a snack before meeting up with friends, one of whom was Hugh Bradley, a long-time friend of MrM from Wakefield days.

A short while later we walked over to the concert where Hugh was playing double bass for singer-songwriter Steve Tilston - brilliant. The main act was pretty good too - Eryn Rae and friends. Worth listening out for!
