An Unkindness of Ravens

A little bit of farming history

An image with "limited appeal", I'm sure, so sorry if it's a bit boring! Stop reading now unless you find old Australian farming implements interesting...

This is in the remains of an old shed, which looks like it was burnt - whether in a bushfire (1962 if so) or a localised shed fire, I don't know. There are several old pieces of farming equipment, and a very quick google search and looking at my images of the rest of this thing, I have deduced that it is a "Petty Disc Orchard Stripping Plow" patented in 1914 by Daniel Harvey. This was developed with the support of a local orchardist, Mr Petty, and was able to provide significant efficiencies for fruit growers by allowing the machine to cultivate under the branches and close to the base of trees.

Petty's Orchard is very close to here, in Templestowe and is one of Melbourne's oldest commercial orchards and has the largest collection of apple varieties on mainland Australia, with more than two hundred varieties of old and rare apples (and a nice organic produce shop and cafe too!)

Sorry if I am not commenting or replying very much at the moment - I seem to be completely overrun with things that need doing and spend half my time driving children around to various activities... life was much simpler when they just stayed at home and played with lego!
