An unpleasant addition

Efeso Collins is standing for Mayor of the Auckland City. He has been the 'front runner' according to opinion polls, and was subject to racist slurs and arrogant 'threats' to be hunted down and mounted on the wall by another mayoral candidate, whose ego could not contemplate failure; when he polled fourth of four serious candidates, he withdrew from the election.

In a calm and almost humble manner, Mr Collins has continued to argue the issues, and set out how he intends to lead this multicultural, multiethnic city of ours. 

When I went for a walk this afternoon, I passed this billboard, which has been defaced by the addition of comic eyes. The main opposition to his election comes from the fascist (mostly pale skinned) right, and they have denigrated him in every way imaginable. All his election signs will need to be checked and the offensive additions removed. Taking supporter time and energy away from election canvassing.

Billboards have increasingly been subject to destruction or defacement in recent years, but I think this is the lowest I have seen.
