Life's Little Moments

Eat your veggies!

Just when I think that 1) chipmunks can't get any cuter, and 2) they can't do anything I have not already seen...something like this happens.  This juvenile chipmunk was perched right on top of our weeping cherry tree eating leaves.  There aren't even many caterpillars that eat these leaves so I'm not sure why the little chipper found them so tasty.  Anyway, I fired a few bursts and managed to catch this one with his mouth wide open, prepared to take a bite.  Too cute to pass up.

We've had a soaking rain for much of the day which we desperately need.  Of course Jax despises rain so he's had two extremely fast and efficient trips outside and has been content to be indoors the rest of the time. For a while he and Charlie were siting next to each other looking out our front storm door which was very sweet.  Charlie hates to even get the faintest splash of water on him so one more reason to be eternally grateful that he is home after his Big Adventure.

I called our vet this morning who asked some questions and then assured me that Charlie sounded fine.  We are to continue monitoring his food and water intake and general behavior - all of which seems perfectly normal.

I saw a molting male Scarlet Tanager in the yard today - all yellow now with some faint hints of orange.  Could be an adult almost done molting or a juvenile male.  Either way, nice bird to see in the yard.  We are getting into the thick of warbler migration now, so it pays to spend time watching the edge of the woods more.  Tanager in Extra

I'm thinking dark with almonds today.
