Travelling Through France

We only managed to arrive at the campsite in La Ferté St Aubin at about 8:30 pm and so it was dark and no one there to tell us where to park or how to access anything - managed to find a spot and miraculously plugged in to a live electricity point.  However the facilities reminded me of my scouting days - wooden hut with strange toilets and showers that had no lighting - a bit of a necessity in the dark, but a strange arrangement where there was a hole in the chipboard ceiling of each cubicle and up in the roof a distant flourescent tube shining vaguely through the hole after dancing a jig in the cubicle and finally convincing the light sensor that there was a living being down in the distant space.  Anyway, the village itself was very much more inviting - typical busy boulangerie where we purchased a lovely fresh almond croissant and pain raisin plus a couple of baguette sandwiches for the journey.
We were heading for Millau, about half way from where we were to Sitges where we are ending up tomorrow.  Milau is famous for its 'cable stay' bridge over the river Tarn - it si the highest bridge in the world, took 3 years to build and cost over 300 million Euros - but it is spectacular.  I suspect that may feature in tomorrow's blip, but for now, this is another bridge over the Aveyron river where we stopped for a coffee at an 'Aire' - this was a great choice as most of these stopping places do not have any views apart from vehicles flying down the autoroute.  Anyway, the most notable part of the trip was driving at nearly 1000 meters in the Massif Central and being absolutely dumped on by rain and hail.  Everyone was driving at about 60 kph and warning flashers on.  We saw one car lying in a crumpled heap - thankfully the driver seemed to be OK and was trying to call someone under an umbrella when we passed.  Arrived safely in Millau and had a steak dinner cooked on the new van's kitchen equipment which proved to be excellent.  One more day of driving to complete and we will be in Sitges tomorrow evening and meet up with sisters and family members for the forthcoming wedding.a
