Leigh Spinners Mill

One outcome (of many) of my “Dad’s Day” yesterday was a need to take a document to nearby Leigh. So I did that this afternoon.

Leigh is a typical Lancashire industrial town. It has canals, a rugby league team and new(ish) stadium, lots of terraced housing and old commercial buildings, and in the enormous Spinners Mill one of the best late Mill buildings in the country. It’s actually a double mill, and is enormous. I stopped off to take a shot or two as I made my way home.

A building preservation trust has done its best to keep the Mill occupied and in some sort of order, with its huge four storey floor spaces occupied by all sorts of community uses and businesses. So large is it that there is room for an archery range.
