The Brimham Rocks in Yorkshire are an amazing collection of rock formations of different shapes and sizes some of them being over 30 metres high.   The rocks are about 380 million years old and the shapes were created mainly since the last Ice Age resulting in thousands of years of erosion by ice, water and wind on the millstone grit rocks. Some of them are over 30 metres high and most have names and some have legends.  There are several Rocking Stones and many animals like an Elephant. Turtle, Owl and a Dancing Bear, some refer to Druids and others to things like seats and cannons and now there is E.T. In the extra can be seen The Eagle, the Druid’s Writing Desk and the Idol which is not a large rock but its 200 ton weight is balanced on a tiny 12 inch rock.
Unfortunately the heavens opened shortly after we set off for a walk and continued the whole time so it curtailed our visit but it did make it very atmospheric with the mist and I hope we get the chance to return again to Brimham sometime.  Then we drove to Fountains Abbey and Studley Water Garden still looking like drowned rats before we dried out.
