A DEDICATION

We're fortunate to live in an area that is chock full of wildlife much of which hangs out in the Sheboygan County Marsh. For years Camp WICODA has kept a trailer stationed at the marsh and it is used for educational purposes for elementary school children. They get to canoe, take bottom samples, identify aquatic organisms and plants, use microscopes and learn about the interdependency of it all.

A former student of mine is the main teacher and coordinator of all the programs taught in this dinky trailer so it has been the dream for many years to have a dedicated facility with a lot more space for the education programs. I'm immensely proud of her accomplishments.

A committee was formed (of course it was...this is a human activity and we humans do nothing without a committee) to study the options and it was decided to plan for such a building and then to raise the money necessary to "get it done."

We're also fortunate to have several giant manufacturing businesses in the county and they all stepped up to the plate and donated money toward the project. Foremost among them is the Kohler Company...recently deceased chairman Herbert V. Kohler Jr.  told his "people" to GET IT DONE!  It must be nice to just wave one's hand and to make things happen. He donated the first $500,000 dollars and also donated all the plumbing fixtures (that's his business) for the lab stations and the bathroom/shower facilities for all the campers.

The main Blip shows all the local dignitaries and major contributors at the official ribbon cutting dedication of the Kohler Center for Marsh Education. Blip 2 shows the exterior of the building; Blip 3 shows half of the education wing which will be occupied by elementary school students this very Friday. On this day things were being set up to thank all the major donors for their help....good food, good drink and a few speeches.
