Kelpie

Maybe a slightly unfortunate angle on one of Andy Scott's Kelpie sculptures here. Or maybe it's just my mucky mind. But, does it not look like a big shiny boaby to you?

Chatted to one of the guys on site here this evening about the progress being made to the huge engineering project going on down at the Forth and Clyde canal. Seems to be on target for the big versions of these to start next month.

He kindly opened up a side on the lorry that the two well travelled maquettes are currently squatting so that I could get a better shot to show the scale that the full size versions will have when they're in place by the autumn. Two thirty metre horses heads, the height of an electricity pylon, dominating the skyline yards from one of Scotland's busiest motorways. That won't be distracting at all. They were originally meant to be a moving structure, but the chap said they had decided that might be too much of a rubber necking attraction as cars and lorries pelted past and might lead to some accidents. He also said that there would be a smooth metal collar around the base of them, unlike the model here, so that the adventurous types wouldn't be tempted to climb up to the top of Boaby the horse.

Much more relevant info on these massive structures over on their official website.
