Contemplative or bemused?

Spotted in amongst the foliage at Notcutts Garden Centre near Tunbridge Wells. Tears of verdigris in his eyes and running down his face.

We were there taking Doreen on an away day from her care home for lunch (she had fish and chips) and a forensic examination of every item on display in the plant section and the general merchandising section which is central to all garden centres.

Much work was going on in the store clearing and preparing space for the Christmas onslaught which seems to get earlier each year. It was a wet old day, not that we’re complaining as we still need the rain. It would have been a more pleasant experience had the sun been shining.

Watched the journey of the royal hearse from Northolt to Buckingham Palace. The arial scenes showed traffic stopped on the opposite carriageway and crowds of people lining the route.

Our generations have experienced many state occasions, jubilees, weddings and funerals over my lifetime. This funeral and next year’s Coronation are likely to be the last for the foreseeable future - but who knows…
