wynken, blynken and nod…

…poem

by american writer & poet

eugene field

it was published - on march 9 1889 - and the original - title was ‘dutch lullaby’ - seeing these 3 - flowers bunched together - made me think - of it even - though it’s a fantasy - bedtime story about - 3 children sailing - and fishing among - the stars from a - boat which is - a wooden shoe - the last stanza - goes like this

wnyken and blynken are two little eyes,
and nod is a little head,
and the wooden shoe that sailed the skies
is a wee ones trundle bed.
so shut your eyes while mother sings
of wonderful sights that be,
and you shall see the beautiful things
as you rock in the misty sea,
where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three:
wynken, blynken and nod.

it’s a cute - poem of fantasy - if you read - the whole thing - through not just - this last and - can set your - sights on childhood - dreams and fancy - things which can - always lead to…

a

happy day.....
