The Quarrie

There are four large limestone quarries in our small Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

One is still in use and over some decades has provided vast quantities of stone to form the foundations of Britain’s motorway system.
A second one is closed and has no access.
The remaining two have been converted into Nature Reserves. This is one of the . It has several orchids including Bee Orchids. It is also used by rock climbers although in places it is unstable and over the years there have been several rock falls.

I was walking round here whilst a few hundred yards away a group of delegates from the annual meeting of Englands 43 AONBs was sitting in a woodland glade listening to a talk from Mrs. K. About the work she is doing to increase the education of our children in natural history and conservation.
That sentence was far too long !
