Orienteering

Fifty years ago we used to do some proper orienteering in woods and  on moorland.
Fun but other activities took over and we never got very serious about it. There are some Lakeland Blippers who are so good at it that they go to International events in Spain and Scandinavia.

Now our grandsons are at the age where we think they would enjoy it and they should certainly learn how to read maps.
Of course they are back at school now.
But thinking of when they will next be up here we oldies decided to test out the permanent orienteering course laid out at the Lake District Visitors Centre, Brockholes.

We had a perfect September morning for the event. Sunshine but cool and still air. So we successfully found all 26 markers shown on the map and when the boys come to try it and run everywhere our advance knowledge may help us to keep up.

My EXTRA is a scene that made me smile as we walked round. I hope it does the same for you.
