Helena abseils for charity fundraiser. Yay!

Today was a big day for Helena. She had committed to raise money for AllSorts, a local charity, which she has been working for occasionally over the last few years. They organised a sponsored fundraising abseiling abseiling event where volunteers would descend from the roof of one of the tall buildings in the town centre, the headquarters of Ecotricity.

We arrived in good time and having checked in she was immediately dressed up in a safety harness and other equipment and ushered off up to the roof of the car park. I have no head for heights to stayed firmly at ground level and joined in the cheering as the first volunteers began to descend.

Helena was understandably nervous but she performed immaculately and was greeted with the loudest cheer of the crowd below, many of whom knew her as a colleague. She couldn’t bounce away from the wall on her descent as she recently injured her foot which is giving her a lot of grief. When she got down she was elated and I was glad to capture the moment when she was given her certificate.
