This name refers to the activities of the Huguenots, who had fled to the Netherlands to escape religious persecution in France in the 16th century. In Harlingen, among other things, the fabric dyers settled. The woven fabrics were worked in large barrels with indigo by stamping with the feet, so that the fabrics were colored evenly.
