Morning hike around Grimwith Reservoir, a beautiful place, low on water. The photo is of the lake taken by the laithe, the Viking name for a barn.

According to Narrative Places, “This particular example was deemed important because they simply can’t build them like this anymore. There are no trees in the area large enough to create the ‘crucks’ (the long eaves). The heather thatching is also decidedly endemic.”

The remains of Gate Up, the village flooded to make the reservoir, are beginning to poke their heads above the water. See extra.
