Life through the lens...

St Francis.

Another of our favourite walks today.
This one from Helford along the side of Frenchman’s Creek.
However this time we did a slight detour through Pengwedhen Woods to the little Chapel by the waters edge dedicated to St Francis of Assisi.
Pushing open the wooden door this statue is what greets you.
Those eyes.
It is quite beautiful and very moving.
The chapel was built in 1930 in memory of local man Dr Leo O’Neill, by his sister, and dedicated to Sir Francis of Assisi. Patron saint of animals.
As you can see a dog is stood on his hind legs, it’s front legs upon his chest.
There is also a frog, cockerel, hare and jackdaw.
There is also a brass plaque

“ He prayeth best, who loveth best all things both great and small for the Dear God who loveth us, he made and loveth all.”

This little chapel I will never forget.

The first extra is photos taken on our walk.
The bottom view is of the Helford from the secluded Penarvon Cove.
The rotting boat belonged to Percy ‘ Powder’ Thurbur who sailed his boat. ‘ Iron Duke’ here in 1920. He built a house at the mouth of the creek, and just left his boat to rot. I keep thinking one day it will disappear altogether.

After the best crab sandwiches from Holy Mackerel Cafe, we drove to Cadgwith Cove.
Still a working fishing Cove, despite that fact that the majority of houses are second homes or Airbnb’s.
They managed to raise the £300,000 to buy the net loft buildings and winding house to make sure the fishermen could continue using the cove.
The tiny church of St Mary is made of corrugated iron erected in 1895.
Many of the cottages date from 17th century.
See extra collage of photos taken in the Cove.

A beautiful sunny day again. We have certainly been lucky with the weather.
